Sleeps up to 70 people in 5 eco-bunkbox units.
“The young people really enjoy staying in them, even in the hottest times of the summer, they slept comfortably. They’re a unique, great use of space, and make young people happy!” – Project Manager CSF.
The eco-bunkboxes were fully booked over the busy summer holidays, whilst the children attended an array of residential sports and football camps.
“We wanted to do something different that would engage young people”
To meet the clients’ needs on this project, we needed to design a new concept; something that created a fun and practical on-site accommodation option for the centre. Something that could sleep dozens of children in separate but manageable spaces. We needed to ensure that it was quick and simple to construct.
“We identified the need to develop residential accommodation for approximately 70 people. We had limited space and a limited budget. We needed the flexibility to have staff close to students, but adhere to our safeguarding policy. We also needed the security to ensure all students were safe but could access the space.”
With a set budget available, the project needed to be fully completed ready for the summer season. Offsite construction methods have proven to be a great alternative to traditional building methods, due to their clear timescales for delivery, their flexibility and cost certainties. For these reasons we adapted our eco-classrooms to meet the project brief.
This first eco-bunkbox project sleeps 12 young people in cosy bunk-bed accommodation with a separate room for two leaders. Each guest has their own individual storage space, USB port, and LED lighting. The units are a light and airy space, with a seating area and washrooms.
“The installation was very smooth and the subcontractors were excellent”
We delivered a turn-key solution, to ensure a finished building was handed over to the client, ready for use. This included the specialised hand-built bunk-bed modules, fire alarm systems, and all the fees involved for the design, planning, engineering, building regs etc. The finished product is fully painted, with flooring, lighting, washroom fittings, external lighting etc.
This launch project for the new eco-bunkboxes have received excellent feedback, both from the guests and the client.
